Percentages are calculated using simple formulas depending on the type of calculation. To find X% of Y: multiply Y by X/100. To find what percentage X is of Y: divide X by Y and multiply by 100. For percentage change: subtract the old value from the new, divide by the old value, and multiply by 100.
To find X% of a number, multiply the number by X and divide by 100. For example, 20% of 150 = 150 × 20 ÷ 100 = 30. Or simply move the decimal point and multiply.
Percentage increase = ((New Value − Old Value) ÷ Old Value) × 100. For example, going from 80 to 100 is (100−80) ÷ 80 × 100 = 25% increase.
Percentage decrease = ((Old Value − New Value) ÷ Old Value) × 100. For example, going from 100 to 75 is (100−75) ÷ 100 × 100 = 25% decrease.
15% of 200 = 200 × 15 ÷ 100 = 30. Our calculator gives you the answer instantly — just enter 15 in the percentage field and 200 in the number field.
